ECHO

FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATION

  • A device for forwarding data between Scout (or ScoutPlus) units and Base or Bridge units
  • Communication to/from Scout/ScoutPlus by lowpower radio link
  • Backup battery supply for continuous operation during power failure up to 6 hours
  • Radio module for collection and verification of radio broadcasts from Scout When working in conjunction with Bridge, enables extended distance.
  • Communication (commands can be sent and responses received) between Scout and PC
  • Verification of data before retransmission.
  • Indication of successful broadcast rate sent at regular intervals to any connected Base or Bridge.
  • At least five Echo units can form part of a continuous routing path for 2way communications.

SCOUTPLUS

Is a combination of two Sensors (Dual channel), housed together with power source (battery), radio transmitter, real-time clock and data storage facilities.

  • The SCOUTPLUS comprises a single PCB mounted within a custom plastic enclosure. The enclosure is ultrasonically welded to form a watertight enclosure.
  •  An external antenna is over moulded onto the plastic case.
  • A waterproof connector is available for external sensors, housed in a moulded casing.
  • A wall or shelf mounting fixture is provided as an integral part of the design.
  • All communication such as upload of settings and download of data is via radio link
  • Radio range: up to 1000 metres in free space.

    Radio Bridge

Is the wireless interface that downloads data directly from a Scout or ScoutPlus into the PC. The Bridge is used as part of a Mini-System or a Transport System

The Bridge has two modes of operation, controlled automatically from the PC software:-

    1. Auto-receive. The Bridge receives and transfers any data broadcast by any Scout, ScoutPlus and Echo.

    2. Download request. The Bridge, on a signal from the PC software, transmits a request for a data retrieval from the Scout or ScoutPlus.

The Bridge plugs into the USB port of the PC. This powers the Bridge and allows data to flow between the Bridge and the PC. It is also possible to fit a Bridge remotely from a PC via Ethernet connection.

    PC Requirements

Minimum PC Requirements for System5 :

    ·         RAM: 512MB

    ·         Processor speed: 1GHz or faster is recommended.

    ·         Hard Disk Space: 4Gb free disk space.

    ·         Rate of Growth: The database will grow at 32Kb per sensor per day. For 20 sensors over 3 months this is about 60Mb. Also, allow space for database backups, preferably on a different PC or removable storage. The backup process requires the same space again on the server, and backups should preferably made on a different PC or removable storage. For viewing archive databases concurrently with current databases, more space again will be required.

    ·         Operating System: Windows 2000 (SP1), XP Home (small systems only) or XP Pro (SP1 or 2) , 2003 Server. Please note that NT is not supported by System5.

    ·         Monitor: 1024 x 728 resolution or higher.

    ·         Connection: Ethernet and/or USB (1.1 or higher) and/or RS232 serial port

This specification is intended as a guideline only. The advertised specifications for modern PCs (RAM, Processor speed and hard-disk size) do not on their own define how well a PC will operate - other factors such as 'bus speed' are equally or more important.

In particular some PCs sold for the 'home' market are not good at running database applications, also many manufacturers keep down the cost of a PC by allocating a portion of the main system memory (RAM) to the display hardware.
Although this works adequately for most general office tasks it can slow down drawing of graphs by System5.
